Nick Kyrgios has been charged of assaulting a former girlfriend, the Canberra Times reported on Tuesday.
The news broke as the 27-year-old, one of the most polarising figures in tennis, prepared for his quarter-finals at Wimbledon on Wednesday.

The charge refers to an alleged assault of a former girlfriend in December 2021 with Kyrgios due to appear in court in Canberra next month.

“ACT Policing can confirm a 27-year-old Watson man is scheduled to face the ACT Magistrates court on the 2nd of August in relation to one charge of common assault following an incident in December 2021,” the statement said.

Barrister Jason Moffett told the newspaper that his client was aware of the charge.
“It’s in the context of a domestic relationship,” he was quoted as saying.
“The nature of the allegation is serious, and Mr Kyrgios takes the allegation very seriously.”

The Canberra Times reported that the charge relates to an allegation that the tennis star grabbed his former partner Chiara Passari.
The controversial player will take on Chile’s Cristian Garin in the Wimbledon quarter-finals on Wednesday.
