Borna Coric became the second high-profile tennis player to test positive for Covid-19 in as many days. The NextGen player took to social media to announce that he had contracted the virus, which has afflicted more than nine million across the globe.

“Hi everyone, I wanted to inform you all that I tested positive for Covid-19,” Coric stated on Monday. “I want to make sure anyone who has been in contact with me during the last few days gets tested! I am really sorry for any harm I might have caused. I am feeling well and don’t have any symptoms. Please stay safe and healthy. Lot of love to all!”

His statement comes less than 24 hours after Grigor Dimitrov revealed he had tested positive for coronavirus. Both the players were part of the much-criticised Adria Tour, a charity exhibition event organized by the Novak Djokovic Foundation.

Dimitrov had pulled out of the second leg of the event, held in Zadar, after losing 4-1, 4-1 to Coric on Saturday.

Right after the news of his ailment started trickling down, the Adria Tour organisers arranged for coronavirus tests the rest of the players and their entourage. Out of the 22 tested, 19 were negative while Coric, Djokovic’s fitness trainer Marko Paniki and Dimitrov’s coach Kristijan Groh had contracted the virus.

The Adria Tour, scheduled to be held over four legs, had come under severe scrutiny for not following any social distance norms and for having a sizeable crowd at the venues. To compound the problem, neither players not spectators were seen wearing masks.

In Belgrade, which hosted the first leg of the tour, the organisers reportedly even arranged for an after-party for the players.
