Jannik Sinner is the best mover on the ATP ranking charts this season

Italian teenager Jannik Sinner has emerged at the top of the heap as the best mover, among top-50 players, on the ATP rankings charts.

According to ATP stats, the 19-year-old climbed 41 places, from No 78 to No 37 by the end of the year.

Having won the 2019 NextGen Finals, Sinner was poised for a breakthrough this season. But the Italian exceeded expectations, making it to the quarterfinals of the French Open and becoming the youngest ATP champion in 12 years by winning the Sofia Open.

“Jannik Sinner is pure talent, in the technical, mental and physical terms,” Roger Federer’s coach Ivan Ljubicic had said recently.

“In my opinion, he is taking step by step, winning one small title in Sofia so far and knowing how hard he has to work to reach the top. For me, his best result came at Roland Garros, when he challenged Rafael Nadal for two sets.”

Sinner was the first player to reach quarterfinals on his Roland Garros debut since Nadal in 2005, but lost to the Spaniard in the last eight 6-7, 4-6, 1-6.

Meanwhile, Vasek Pospisil, whose career-high  ranking is No. 25, underwent back surgery in January 2019. The Canadian made a return to form this year, climbing 89 spots to reach a year-end No. 61.
