WTA stars Alison Van Uytvanck and Greet Minnen announced their engagement on Christmas Day through posts on their respective Instagram handles.

The Belgian pair have been dating for the past four years and have often played as doubles partners on tour. Together they won the doubles title at the Luxembourg Open in 2018.

Most notably though, the duo became the first same-sex couple to compete in the doubles event of a Grand Slam when they played at Wimbledon in 2019 – finishing in the second round.

A year earlier at Wimbledon, when 26-year-old and current World No 64 Van Uytvanck pulled off an upset win over third seed Garbine Muguruza in the second round, she ran to kiss and embrace Minnen, 23, who was watching from the stands.

“I know it was a big deal but we just didn’t think about it,” Minnen, ranked 108 in singles, had said to The Telegraph.

“She had just made the biggest win of her career and I was so happy and not thinking in that moment.”
