Gael Monfils found himself in the firing line of Roger Federer while trying to recreate a video

Gael Monfils will definitely remember to never stand in the firing line of Roger Federer again.

His fiancee Elina Svitolina posted a hilarious video from Switzerland on Sunday.

Last year, Monfils and Svitolina had posted a video of the French player standing by the court wall while Svitolina expertly bounced the tennis ball around him without quite hitting Monfils. Much like the knife throwing act in a circus.

In a bid to recreate that, they recruited the help of Federer. But it didn’t quite go to plan.

Svitolina started the short clip by saying: “I know it’s a big challenge for you, but try to relax your arm and you can do it…”

The camera then panned to Federer, who proceeded to quickly hit three tennis balls in the direction of Monfils, who was standing at the back of a court staring at his phone.

The third ball literally hit the spot, much to the amusement of Federer and Svitolina.

Federer broke down in laughter, offering a “sorry” by way of apology. Svitolina turned to the camera, saying, “Don’t try this at home!”

Federer added, “This is a behind the scenes. This one doesn’t count.”

On Sunday, Monfils thanked Federer for training with him on the weekend.

“Thank you @rogerfederer for this weekend, always a pleasure to share the court with you,” Monfils tweeted.

“You are a big inspiration on and off the court. Happy to see you back on court.”
